Connect your wallet
Connecting your wallet to our platform allows you to interact with all of its features, including swapping tokens, adding liquidity, and managing your portfolio. This guide will walk you through the process.
Supported Wallets
Our platform currently supports the following wallets on the Aptos network:
Petra Wallet: A popular wallet developed by Aptos Labs.
Website: https://petra.app/
Pontem Wallet: A wallet designed for Aptos and other Move-based blockchains.
Website: https://pontem.network/pontem-wallet
OKX Wallet: A multi-chain wallet offered by the OKX exchange, with support for Aptos.
Website: https://www.okx.com/web3
Aptos Connect (Social Login): For users who prefer a streamlined experience, Aptos Connect allows you to create and access your wallet using your existing social accounts like Google or Apple. This system is truly keyless: instead of managing a traditional private key or seed phrase, access is tied directly to your social login. A temporary key is typically derived from the session token (e.g., JWT from OAuth2) provided when you sign in with your social account.
Website: https://aptosconnect.app/
Note: With this system, the security of your wallet is equivalent to the security of your linked social account. It's crucial to use a strong, unique password and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Google, Apple, or other social accounts.
Please ensure you have one of these wallets installed as a browser extension or mobile app before proceeding.
Connection Steps
Click "Connect Wallet": This will open a pop-up window displaying the list of supported wallets.
Select Your Wallet: Click on the name of the wallet you have installed (e.g., Petra, Pontem, or OKX).
Approve Connection: Your wallet extension or app will prompt you to approve the connection to our platform. Review the request and confirm if you trust the site.
Connected! Once approved, your wallet address should be visible on the platform, indicating a successful connection. You can now explore and use all the features that require a wallet.
Understanding Wallet Types: EOA vs. Keyless
When you connect a wallet, you're using one of several types. Here's a brief overview:
EOA (Externally Owned Account) Wallets
Examples: Petra Wallet, Pontem Wallet, OKX Wallet (as listed above).
Key Management: With EOA wallets, you are in direct control of your private keys, most commonly represented by a "seed phrase" or "recovery phrase" (a list of 12 or 24 words).
Responsibility: You are solely responsible for the security of your seed phrase. Losing it means losing access to your funds, and anyone who gets your seed phrase can control your assets.
Security: This model offers high security if the seed phrase is managed correctly (e.g., stored offline, never shared).
Keyless Wallets (e.g., via Social Logins like Aptos Connect)
Concept: "Keyless" in this context means you don't directly write down and manage a seed phrase. Instead, key management is handled differently, often making the user experience simpler.
How it works with Aptos Connect:
Social Logins: You use your Google, Apple, or other social accounts to log in.
Truly Keyless Operation: For Aptos Connect, this system is truly keyless. When you authenticate via your social provider (using OAuth2), a session token (like a JWT) is generated. This token is then used to derive a temporary key that allows your wallet to sign transactions. There isn't a permanent private key stored by you or a third-party custodian in the traditional sense. The "key" is essentially your ability to successfully log into your social account.
Benefits:
Ease of Use: More familiar login process (like any web app) for those new to Web3. No need to learn about or manage seed phrases directly.
Recovery: Account recovery is tied to your social account's recovery methods.
Security Considerations for Aptos Connect:
Social Account Security is Paramount: The security of your wallet is critically dependent on the security of your linked social account. If someone gains access to your social account, they can control your wallet.
It is essential to use a strong, unique password and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on the social account you use with Aptos Connect.
You are trusting your social media provider's security and the mechanism that derives a key from your session.
Wallet Security Best Practices
Regardless of the wallet type you choose, maintaining the security of your assets is crucial.
For EOA Wallets (e.g., Petra, Pontem, OKX Wallet):
Guard Your Seed Phrase: Your seed phrase (recovery phrase) is the master key to your wallet.
Never share it with anyone. Support staff or administrators will never ask you for your seed phrase.
Store it securely offline. Write it down on paper and store it in multiple safe, private locations (e.g., a safe, a safety deposit box). Consider fireproof and waterproof storage.
Do not store it digitally in plain text on your computer, phone, or in cloud storage (e.g., email drafts, notes apps, Google Drive), as these can be compromised.
Beware of Phishing: Scammers create fake websites or send emails/messages pretending to be legitimate services to trick you into revealing your seed phrase or private keys. Always double-check website URLs and be wary of unsolicited messages.
Use Strong Passwords: For the wallet application itself (the password that unlocks it on your device), use a strong, unique password. This password protects access to the wallet software, but the seed phrase is what controls the funds.
Consider a Hardware Wallet: For an extra layer of security, especially for significant amounts, consider using a hardware wallet (like Ledger or Trezor). These devices keep your private keys offline, even when transacting. You would typically connect your hardware wallet through a compatible software wallet like Petra.
For Keyless / Social Login Wallets (e.g., Aptos Connect):
Secure Your Social Account: The security of your keyless wallet is directly tied to the security of the linked social account (Google, Apple, etc.).
Use a strong, unique password for your social media account.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your social media account. This is one of the most effective ways to protect it.
Understand the Provider's Security: While you don't manage keys directly, the service providing the keyless functionality (and potentially using MPC technology) is responsible for its security. Choose reputable providers.
Be Mindful of Device Security: Ensure the device you use to access your social accounts and wallet is secure (e.g., updated operating system, reputable antivirus software if applicable).
Approve Connections Carefully: Just like with EOA wallets, be cautious about which applications you grant access to connect to your wallet.
Troubleshooting
Wallet Not Detected: If your installed wallet isn't appearing, ensure your browser extension is enabled and not conflicting with other wallet extensions. Try refreshing the page.
Connection Issues: If you encounter errors during the connection process, try disconnecting other active wallet connections in your browser extension or try a different browser.
Pop-up Blocked: Ensure your browser is not blocking pop-ups from our website.
If you continue to experience issues, please reach out to our support channels for assistance.
